Sometimes changes happen fast in Richmond’s vibrant Chinese restaurant industry,
Case in point, while Yuan's Shanghai Serendipity Cuisine was unable to recover from closing temporarily due to COVID-19, it has already been replaced by a popular established local restaurant in need of a larger space.
Now in place of Yuan's on No. 3 Road, close to the Aberdeen Canada Line station, is Hao's Lamb Restaurant, a Northern Chinese eatery specializing in all things lamb, from chops to stew - and a lot in between.
Other specialty items on the menu include lamb shanks, spicy mutton, and crispy sesame bread.
However, Hao's has also become known in the last few years for their highly specialized lamb offal dishes, including lamb kidneys, tripe, and even penis. It is on the menu, if you are looking to order it, as "Fried Ovine Genital."
In 2017, Hao's won a Chinese Restaurant Awards Critics' Choice nod for their Roasted Lamb Leg, a special dish available via pre-order.
Restaurant owner Zhengwen Hao said his business relocated from its smaller original space on McKim Way in Richmond to the bigger ex-Yuan's location to accommodate more customers.
Take a look at a few of Hao's dishes:
