More details have been revealed about the B.C.'s publicly funded IVF program.
In March 2024, the province said the program will fund treatment and medication for a single cycle of treatment. Budget 2024 allocated $68 million over two years.
For eligible B.C. residents, one-time funding up to $19,000 is available.
"For people wanting to start a family, infertility and other barriers to parenthood can take a real toll on their well-being," Premier David Eby said in a March 2024 press release.
"Being able to have a child shouldn't depend on how much money you make, who you love or your relationship status."
On March 6, 2025, the province released more information around eligibility requirements.
Applications will open on July 2, 2025, for the program year from July 2 to March 31, 2026. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 41 at the time of application.
Applicants must also be enrolled in the Medical Services Plan at the time of application and for the duration of treatment.
The province said IVF treatment must be completed at a participating B.C. fertility clinic. Participating clinics will be announced once more details are finalized.
Funding may be applied to:
- Any part of a standard IVF cycle (including orientation, egg retrieval, sperm retrieval, fertilization, blastocyst culture and single embryo transfer; fresh or frozen)
- Components of a standard IVF cycle with previously frozen eggs
- Frozen embryo transfer (FET) using previously frozen embryos
- Required medications
Applications for IVF funding must be sent to the Ministry of Health by a participating B.C. fertility specialist.
The full application process is available online.
