A man accused of attempted murder in connection with a January shooting in Vancouver’s downtown entertainment district appeared in court Nov. 7 on that charge and multiple other charges.
Jeremy Frederick Pete, 41, appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Adrian Brooks to face nine charges, including assaulting a peace officer, multiple firearms offences and a breach of court conditions.
The hearing had been for bail proceedings but was adjourned to Nov. 14 at the request of defence. Pete’s lawyer is listed as Tony Lagemaat.
The attempted murder charge relates to a Jan. 17 incident where Pete is also charged with aggravated assault and possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted handgun without a licence or registration.
The Vancouver Police Department said the 32-year-old victim was standing near Granville and Nelson streets when he was shot just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 17.
“The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries,” police said.
The court information was sworn Oct. 26.
Judge Laura Bakan ordered Pete detained on those charges Oct. 30.
Pete is also charged in connection with a Vancouver assault April 30.
Court documents from that file show he was in custody as of an Oct. 23 appearance.
Judge Kathryn Denhoff granted Pete bail with strict conditions May 30 in connection with firearm offences May 7.
There, he was charged with possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted handgun without a licence or registration, possession of a loaded firearm magazine, carrying a concealed firearm and failing to comply with a release order by possessing a weapon.
Pete is also charged with assaulting a peace officer May 12 in Port Coquitlam.
