A Surrey man has been charged with five counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to CNN anchor Erin Burnett, her family and employees at the network.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Surrey RCMP announced 38-year-old Nicholas Sullivan was charged on Nov. 10.

Sullivan, whose full name is Nicholas Ryan Hedgecoe Sullivan, is expected to appear in court on Friday.

According to court documents obtained by Glacier Media, the alleged threats were made for months on social media channels, including YouTube and Twitter.

The alleged threats were made over several periods, including multiple days in May of 2021, and again in February, May and June 2022.

The counts are for the following dates:

  • Count 1: May 3 and 4, 2021
  • Count 2: May 3 and 4, 2021
  • Count 3: May 10, 2022 and June 15, 2022
  • Count 4: May 10, 2022 and June 15, 2022
  • Count 5: Feb. 27, 2022 and June 15, 2022

RCMP first received a complaint about the man in May 2021, according to a report from the CBC.

Surrey RCMP say their general investigation unit took over the file in June 2022 and was able to identify a suspect. Mounties worked with U.S. authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Sullivan was arrested on July 10 and a search warrant was executed at his residence. He was released from custody on conditions, which are not being revealed.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
