A Vancouver man has been sentenced to time served for assaulting a police officer, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of a release order.
Vancouver provincial court Judge Patricia Bond heard Sept. 8 that Peter Michael Legault was seen on a camera in a Downtown Eastside housing complex July 23. He was carrying a knife and going door to door knocking.
Crown prosecutor Heather Burley said Legault went to seven rooms with the knife hidden behind his back.
Staff at the site called police and officers attended.
But, Burley said, when Legault got to to the police station, he lunged at an officer with a closed fist in an attempt to strike the officer in the head. She said the officer avoided the blow and took Legault to the ground.
Then, on Aug. 23, Legault was in the company of a woman he had been ordered to stay away from, a situation resulting in the breach of release order charge.
Burley said Legault has 11 criminal convictions, four of which are assault. Another four are for breaches.
She said he was on probation at the time of the incident.
Bond said Legault has served 17 days in jail awaiting court for which he receives 26 days credit.
Legault also received a year’s probation.
