A woman charged in a fatal Vancouver stabbing was allegedly involved in an assault the same day, court records show.
On July 19, 2022, the Vancouver Police Department announced Lindsay Scott had been charged with second-degree murder and assault in the death of Justin Mohrman.
The 29-year-old was walking near Smithe and Homer streets around 8:30 a.m. on July 11, 2022 when a stranger stabbed him.
However, when Scott made a court appearance July 19, an assault charge was listed along with the murder count.
Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin confirmed the assault on a woman in Vancouver took place before the attack that led to Mohrman’s death.
“The alleged assault occurred around 8:15 a.m. which was before the attack on Mr. Mohrman,” Visintin said.
Scott was charged with the assault July 14 and released the next day. She was barred from being in downtown Vancouver.
She was charged with the murder July 18 and has remained in custody ever since.
On May 16, Crown prosecutor Brendan McCabe told Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Andrea Brownstone a four-day preliminary inquiry had been set for May 21-24.
Such hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exist for the case to proceed to trial. They are covered by a publication ban in order not to taint a potential juror pool should an accused elect trial by judge and jury.
However, dates for a preliminary became uncertain when the court heard Scott had been under treatment at B.C.’s Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, which leaves Scott sedated and confused.
Court records now show a preliminary inquiry date of Aug. 1.
