BC NDP hold slim lead in crucial battleground riding

The NDP now lead Surrey-Guildford by 14 votes. An hour ago, they trailed the BC Conservatives by four votes.

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.

The BC NDP are holding onto a smaller lead in Surrey-Guildford.

The NDP now lead Surrey-Guildford by nine votes, down from 14 an hour ago.

The Conservatives have again extended their lead in Kelowna Centre to 64 votes, up from 62 votes during the last update.

The Kelowna Centre and Surrey-Guildford ridings are the only two ridings still in play as Elections BC completes its final count of absentee and special ballots. Updates are coming every hour.

The BC NDP are now leading in 47 ridings—a majority government—while the Conservatives have 44 seats. The Greens have two seats.

The BC NDP have taken the lead in Surrey-Guildford, increasing the likelihood of a majority government.

The NDP now lead Surrey-Guildford by 14 votes. An hour ago, they trailed the BC Conservatives by four votes.

The Conservatives, however, have slightly extended their lead in Kelowna Centre to 62 votes, up from 60 votes during the last update.

The Kelowna Centre and Surrey-Guildford ridings are the only two ridings still in play as Elections BC completes its final count of absentee and special ballots. Updates on the count are being provided hourly.

The BC NDP are now leading in 47 ridings—a majority government—while the Conservatives have 44 seats. The Greens have two seats.

Judicial recounts can still be triggered in ridings where the margin of victory is less than 1/500th of the total ballots considered.


UPDATE 11:10 a.m.

The BC NDP are on the verge of a majority government and have cut the Conservative lead in Surrey-Guildford to just four votes.

That is down from nine votes an hour ago.

The NDP have also reduced the Conservative lead in Kelowna Centre to 60 votes, down from 63 votes an hour ago.

Elections BC are in the midst of its final count Monday and are providing updates every hour as it works through absentee and special ballots.

The NDP are now ahead in Fuca-Malahat by 109 votes, down from 111 an hour ago.

The NDP are ahead by 180 votes in Surrey City Centre, clinching that riding as there was only 175 absentee and special ballots to count in the riding at the start of Monday.

At the start of Monday, there were 228 absentee ballots left to count in Kelowna Centre and 226 in Surrey-Guildford.

Elections BC are in the midst of its final count Monday and are providing updates every hour.

Kelowna Centre Conservative candidate Kristina Loewen started the day with a 68-vote lead over NDP candidate Loyal Wooldridge going into the start of counting absentee ballots, of which there are 228 in Kelowna Centre.

In the riding of Surrey-Guildford, the NDP have cut the Conservative lead there from 12 votes to just nine. There are 226 absentee ballots being counted in that riding on Monday.

In Juan de Fuca-Malahat, the NDP extended their lead to 111 votes. They started the day with a 106 vote lead.

Currently, the BC NDP leads in 46 ridings, while the BC Conservatives follow closely with 45, and the Green Party has secured two seats.

If the NDP flips one riding, they will capture a majority government.
