A Langley-based contracting company was fined this past summer for severing a natural gas line at a Burnaby construction site.
Complete Utility Contractors Ltd. was penalized for the early July incident at a price of just under $30,000, according to a report recently published by WorkSafeBC.
In its statement, the province's safety watchdog said the firm hit a natural gas line while crews were trying to install an underground water main.
The incident took place during an on-site excavation and the excavator's bucket severed the line, WorkSafeBC explained.
As well, the organization said Complete Utility Contractors "failed to determine the location" of the gas line before it begun the excavation process, and "failed to ensure excavation work" was conducted properly near the underground utilities as per "requirements of the utility owner."
WorkSafeBC classified the above as "repeated violations" in its report.
Complete Utility Contractors Ltd. was officially set back a total of $29,259.44 as a result of the Burnaby incident.
The fine was formally imposed on July 11, WorkSafeBC stated.
