A man who pleaded guilty in February to four charges of indecent exposures across the Lower Mainland has been charged with two counts of masturbating in public at UBC.
Christopher Kumar Ram, 36, was initially charged with seven counts of committing an indecent act in a public place.
He returned to jail May 22 after an alleged probation breach at UBC, a charge sworn May 23. Three days later, two new charges were sworn.
Ram is now charged with two counts of public masturbation connected with two incidents at UBC on May 21. The first involves an incident at 6080 Student Union Blvd., the address of the UBC Aquatic Centre. The second is connected with events at 1961 East Mall, the address of Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, also referred to as Main Library.
Ram has been on Vancouver provincial court lists May 26, 29 and 30.
He has either refused to attend court or has been deemed unfit to attend.
On May 30, duty counsel lawyer Paul Ferguson told Judge Kathryn Denhoff Ram was again unfit.
Ram not appearing in court since his arrest is concerning, the judge said. Denhoff ordered an overnight fitness assessment.
Earlier this year, Ram pleaded guilty to the following charges as well as two charges of breaching court orders relating to release conditions:
- exposing himself in a UBC women’s washroom on April 21, 2022;
- masturbating in front of others in Vancouver’s Foster Park on April 17, 2022;
- committing an indecent act at Langara College on March 27, 2022; and,
- masturbating on a SkyTrain in Surrey on Oct. 19, 2021.
He was also ordered not to go to colleges, universities or schools without the court's permission. Ram also can't go to public parks, gyms or pools without written permission from his probation officer.
