Coquitlam RCMP are turning to the public for witness statements and video after an altercation with a weapon that injured two Mounties on June 30, 2024.

Two Coquitlam Mounties were hurt during an altercation involving a weapon on the Coquitlam/Port Coquitlam border last month.

Now, the detachment is calling for footage from the public to help with the investigation.

Police issued a news release today, July 9, about the incident that happened on June 30, 2024, at 9:50 a.m. near the Westwood Street and Lougheed Highway intersection.

Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins told the Tri-City News that officers were helping paramedics and Coquitlam firefighters with a medical emergency when another person brandished a weapon — the type of which is not being disclosed — and tried to harm emergency responders.

The suspect fled on foot, running east to Port Coquitlam through laneways, parking lots and residential backyards; he was arrested near Patricia Avenue and Hastings Street in Port Coquitlam.

Hodgins said anyone who witnessed a man running through their private property between 9:50 and 11 a.m. on June 30 is asked to call the RCMP detachment.

Investigators are also seeking video footage in the area north of Lougheed between Clayton Street and Hasting Street to Patricia Avenue.

The suspect is described as:

  • White man
  • 5’10”
  • slim build
  • 30 years old
  • blonde hair
  • Last seen wearing...
    • blue jacket
    • black jeans
    • black shirt

“We believe that the suspect was purposely evading police and may have dropped clothing items during the process,” Hodgins said.

“We are asking anyone who may have located clothing or recovered items in their backyards or alleyways to contact the Coquitlam RCMP. We are also seeking dash-cam or video surveillance from the area to piece together the entirety of the event.”

Hodgins said the two Mounties involved in the incident received minor injuries.

Anyone who has any information about the suspect is asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-16722.
