A B.C. man wants to delay court proceedings on two murder conspiracy and attempt to pervert justice charges until he has finished dealing with a murder charge in B.C. Supreme Court.

Richard Charles Reed is facing the conspiracy and perversion charges in Vancouver Provincial Court in respect to events alleged to have occurred in Port Coquitlam, Vancouver and Richmond.

He went on trial in B.C. Supreme Court in April accused of shooting up a Richmond sushi restaurant, killing Jian Jun Zhu and injuring Paul King Jin. Justice Jeanne Watchuk's decision on that trial is pending.

Justice Heather MacNaughton heard May 28 that Watchuk has asked for the case to return to court June 5 so a date for her decision can be set.

On June 3, Provincial Court Judge Gregory Rideout asked Reed if it was his wish to delay until after the Supreme Court decision.

“Yes,” Reed said, appearing by video.

Rideout adjourned the case until Oct. 1.

Reed, who also goes by ‘Ricky,’ has several prior criminal convictions from between 2017 and 2023, including robbery, breach of a release order and breach of probation after being charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Most recently, in April 2023, Reed was jailed for 12.5 months for sexual interference against a minor plus two months in jail for obstructing police.
