The District of North Vancouver has declared a state of local emergency and issued a mandatory evacuation order for six properties on Panorama Drive in Deep Cove due to flooding in the area.

The district announced the mandatory evacuation order and state of local emergency Sunday due to "the impacts of the extreme rainfall event and flooding on October 19 and the continued rainfall on October 20," according to information posted the district's X (formerly Twitter) social media account.

"The state of local emergency order and resulting evacuation come after inspections by qualified professionals during the morning of October 20 found that potential failure of private infrastructure is deemed to create a risk to public safety," the statement read. "The decision to declare a state of local emergency and issue a mandatory evacuation is not taken lightly."

The properties under evacuation order are: 2754, 2758, 2762, 2770, 2778, and 2780 on Panorama Drive.

According to the district, the residents of these properties are eligible to receive emergency support services to support the evacuation through the North Shore Emergency Management office, should they request assistance with temporary relocation.

NSEM noted Sunday that a reception centre that had been set up at Mickey McDougall Recreation Centre on Oct. 19 for evacuated flood victims is now closed, although short-term emergency supports are available to residents who have experienced significant consequences/impacts due to yesterday’s storm and are unable to stay in their home. Those in need of assistance can access emergency support service programming by calling NSEM at 778-651-9600.
