Dog dead after Vancouver hit-and-run, police asking for witnesses

The 15-year-old dog was killed while being walked.

A dog that was being walked on leash in Vancouver is now dead after being struck by a vehicle. 

Vancouver police says Monkie, a 15-year-old Pekingese dog, was being walked along Arbutus Street during the middle of the day on Saturday when the incident occurred.

Monkie was on leash at the intersection of Arbutus Street and Nanton Avenue when a driver was travelling southbound and struck her. 

The dog was killed and the driver did not stop. 

It's not clear if the dog ran into the intersection or how the dog was struck. 

Police are now asking any witnesses to come forward. Officers are also looking for dash camera footage.
