A Langley man has died after drowning in Cultus Lake over the weekend.

Chilliwack RCMP officers responded to Entrance Bay on Sept. 7 after a Langley man went into the water but did not resurface.

Cpl. Teresa Parsons says people in the area immediately started to search for the man but weren’t able to find him.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue, Cultus Lake Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services also attended the scene.

An extensive search was conducted by foot and by boat but the man could not be located until the next day. The RCMP dive team located and recovered the body.

Foul play is not suspected and the man’s family has been notified.

Glacier Media has spoken to the family, who has asked for privacy at this time.

"We have actively engaged our victim services team to support the family after this tragic incident,” says Cpl. Brett Urano.

He thanks all those who assisted with the search.

A total of 28 people have died this year in British Columbia and the Yukon, according to the Lifesaving Society. This death would mark 29 deaths.
