The number of Kinder Easter chocolates possibly contaminated by Salmonella has more than doubled since last week.
The recall announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) last week included 10 Kinder brand chocolates, made by Ferrero Canada, but on Monday, just days before Easter, that list grew to 23 products.
The recalled products include several Kinder surprise products, advent calendars and mini-eggs.
According to the CFIA, the products have been sold across Canada.
The CFIA stated it is working to verify that the products are being pulled off the shelves.
Food contaminated by Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, the CFIA warns, but it can cause serious or deadly infections in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people can get symptoms like fever, headache, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
Anyone who might have consumed these products and feels ill should contact a doctor.
Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to where they were bought.
The CFIA is warning the public not to eat them.
