A New West resident is looking forward to attending a music festival in Las Vegas after winning $500,000 in a recent Lotto Max draw.

Dimitri Golimbonis shared a $1-million Maxmillions prize with another player in Ontario in the June 7, 2022 draw. He bought his ticket at the B.C. Lottery Corporation’s PlayNow.com, the province’s only legal, regulated gambling website.

“I was playing at home and told my girlfriend I won. She laughed and said I was lying and then we hugged,” he said in a BCLC news release. “We were speechless.”

Golimbonis said he plans to use his winnings to help purchase a home and to send his parents and his girlfriend’s parents to their home country to visit family. He also plans to enjoy some travel.

“I want to go to Vegas for a music festival,” he said. “And I’m a big sports guy, so it would be great to visit some stadiums.”

And, just how does it feel to win $500,000?

“It’s so surreal,” Golimbonis said. “I’ve imagined before what I would do if I won and how I would act. It’s a sigh of relief for myself and my family.”

According to the lottery corporation, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $64 million playing Lotto Max so far in 2022. A nationwide lottery game, winning numbers are drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m. local time.

In May, Burnaby resident Trang Dang won more than $10.9 million in the Lotto 6/49. She bought her jackpot-winning ticket for the May 28 draw at the Safeway in Royal Square mall.
