Homicide investigators hope the public can help advance their investigation into a July 5 shooting in Surrey that left one man dead.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the 5:30 a.m. shooting in a parking lot near the 7300-block of 122 Street near Strawberry Hills in Newton was targeted and an isolated incident.

Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Jatindeep Singh of Langley.

"The victim was transported to hospital but has since died of his injuries," IHIT's Staff Sgt. David Lee said in a statement Friday.

Singh did not have a criminal record, Lee noted.

"IHIT investigators are looking to speak with the friends and associates of Jatindeep Singh," he said, adding anyone with dash-camera footage or surveillance video is asked to call police as well.

IHIT, the lead on the investigation, says it's working in partnership with the BC Coroners Service, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the Surrey RCMP detachment.

"Investigators are completing canvassing in priority areas, contacting associates, and reviewing the collected evidence," the statement said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at [email protected].
