Ukrainians arriving in B.C. will now have full coverage of eligible prescription costs for one year.
In an announcement Friday, the Ministry of Health said people with Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel can receive 100 per cent coverage of eligible prescription costs for one year under PharmaCare’s Plan C.
Plan C is one of BC PharmaCare’s 12 plans helping B.C. residents pay for prescription medications, medical devices and supplies, and pharmacy services.
In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine sending millions of people fleeing to safety, many taking refuge in Canada.
Coverage for the Plan C is automatic for people receiving benefits and income assistance through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
The B.C. government is encouraging newcomers to enrol for coverage as soon as they arrive by visiting the Medical Services Plan (MSP) website or calling 1-800-663-7100.
In 2021, Plan C assisted more than 184,000 residents in B.C. with drug costs and pharmacy fees.
Other assistance is provided to people arriving in B.C. from Ukraine, such as temporary hardship assistance for up to six months. For more information on assistance, visit the Welcome Ukraine website.
