The family of a teenage boy who was fatally stabbed on a Surrey bus is inviting the public to his vigil.
Ethan Bespflug, 17, was on a bus near the King George Skytrain Station when an altercation occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on April 11. The teen was stabbed and died in the hospital.
On Monday, police announced that Kaiden Brady Robert Mintenko, 20, was arrested Sunday. The Burnaby man has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection to Bespflug's death.
Investigators say the attack wasn't random, and the two knew each other through a third party, but they would not elaborate more on that connection. Police confirmed Mintenko was known to police.
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., family and friends will gather in Surrey for a candlelight vigil to remember the teenage boy.
"It’s with sad and heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our sweet Ethan Bespflug and would like to invite friends, family, and the community to come help us bring awareness to this indescribable tragedy,” says Melissa Dion, the person who is organizing the vigil.
The vigil is being held just outside the King George SkyTrain Station at 100th Avenue and King George Boulevard, where the stabbing took place.
The vigil will take place rain or shine. So far, more than 50 people have responded they will be in attendance.
A celebration of life will take place on Thursday.
