A 26-year-old Surrey man is facing four charges 21 months after his alleged involvement in a Coquitlam shooting that sent one person to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gunder Bringi is charged with:
- 1 count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- 1 count of Discharge a Firearm with intent to wound or disfigure
- 1 count of Aggravated Assault
- 1 count of Possession of a Firearm contrary to Order
In a news release, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said Bringi is still in police custody.
On March 31, 2021, officers were called to reports of shots fired around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of North and Clarke roads.
When Mounties arrived, they found a victim suffering a gunshot wound following an "altercation" between two men.
The nature of the shooting also led to a massive police presence, including help from RCMP Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT), and forced the evacuation of the nearby Burquitlam Capital apartment tower (691 North Rd.).
"This shooting occurred on a busy street during the day in the middle of the week, which shows a complete disregard for public safety," said Cpl. Hodgins.
"Our investigators recognize the importance of following the evidence in each case, and identifying those responsible to ensure that they can be brought before the courts."
This was the fourth known Coquitlam shooting of 2021 and was the second to occur in as many days.
It was also one of nine total shooting incidents publicly reported by Mounties from all of last year.
