Vancouver residents displaced after fire damages multiple homes

It took 55 firefighters to get the fire under control.

Firefighters responded to a blaze that caught multiple homes on fire on Oct. 7, 2024.

People have been forced from their homes after flames erupted into the sky and multiple homes caught on fire in East Vancouver Monday night.

Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire in the 1000-block of East Pender Street.

Vancouver Fire Chief Karen Fry urged people to avoid the area at 8:40 p.m. 

"Our fire crews are on scene in the 1000-block of E Pender St. for multiple houses on fire,” said Fry. 

Many people took to social media to share videos and photographs of flames shooting into the sky. 

A total of 55 firefighters battled the blaze and were able to get the fire under control as of Tuesday morning. 

"These incidents impact the community, residents and people who live here. The information gathered at fires determines prevention efforts going forward," says a spokesperson with VFRS.

No one was injured in the fire but 12 people are displaced from their homes. 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
