West Vancouver police ask for public’s help in search for missing kayaker

A man is missing after leaving West Vancouver on a kayak, Tuesday afternoon.

The 36-year-old departed from Batchelor Bay on Nov. 19 at around 12:40 p.m., according to a release from West Vancouver police.

He was last seen near Whyte Islet, heading north toward Whytecliff Park. He didn’t return by his anticipated arrival time of 2:30 p.m., and was reported missing just after 4 p.m., police said.

The missing man is five-foot-ten, 170 pounds (77 kilograms), with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black rain jacket, black track pants and black flip flops. He was in a white collapsible kayak, police said in the release.

A search for the man is ongoing.

Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for the missing man. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call West Vancouver Police Department at 604-925-7300.
