Planning a trip up Mount Seymour this season? Not without a pass you aren’t.

B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Parks confirmed that mandatory day-use passes will be required again for the peak season, beginning on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The ministry introduced the free-but-mandatory day pass program in 2020 to manage demand for park access at peak times. BC Parks staff will be scanning the digital passes before allowing visitors to park in either Lot 1 or the lower Lot 5.

“The limited number of free passes provides a more predictable and enjoyable experience by reducing congestion in the busy areas,” the ministry’s notice stated.

Passes for will be made available at 7 a.m. two days prior, and visitors must choose between a morning pass (7 a.m. to noon) or afternoon pass (noon to 4 p.m.) Visitors arriving after 4 p.m. can park without a pass.

Lots 2, 3, 4 and upper Lot 5 – the ones nearest the lodge and ski runs – will be reserved for Mt. Seymour Ski Resort passholders, who must also have their passes purchased in advance.

Visitors arriving by Mt Seymour Resort shuttle service, on foot, or by bicycle will be exempt.

After Jan. 5, the passes will only be required on weekends and holidays.

The passes will be available on the BC Parks website at reserve.bcparks.ca/dayuse/.

Because cell service can be spotty on Mount Seymour, users are encouraged to download, screenshot or print their emailed QR code before coming to the mountain.
