An outdoor atrium in Vancouver International Airport’s (YVR) expanded international terminal will open after more than a year.
The atrium, described as a “glassed-in island forest” was one of the new facilities in YVR’s Pier D expansion promising access to the outdoors. But visitors have yet to be able to check it out since the new terminal became fully operational last June.
In a statement to the Richmond News, YVR said there were some “operational considerations” in the atrium that had to be addressed before it can open its doors.
“It has not been accessible to passengers since the expansion was complete,” reads the statement.
A sign on the door announcing the temporary closure states the space was “undergoing maintenance to ensure a safe experience for all travellers.”
The airport is currently undergoing final preparations to open the atrium later this summer.
