This year, V.I.A. again published more than 40 pieces listing five (hopefully) interesting pieces of information about the city or region nearby.
Topics ranged from the very, very broad (like plants) to the focused (like the Abbotsford Airshow); in all, we shared more than 200 facts.
Of all of those topics, these five were the most popular.
1. 5 things you didn't know about Taylor Swift and Vancouver
Swiftomania hit Vancouver hard in early December and fans of the pop star finishing her Eras Tour in BC Place helped make this piece a hit, just like the ones Swift writes.
Facts included the unusual footage used for an official lyric video, who quoted Taylor Swift during a local sports broadcast, and the Gastown steam clock's new tune.
2. 5 very Canadian facts you didn't know about Vancouver
While Vancouver may not be the most stereotypical Canadian city, there is plenty that connects the city to the nation's history and culture, like the O Canada house, truly gigantic leaves, and a very Canadian flight delay (no, it didn't involve the weather).
3. 5 things you didn't know about Kingsway in Vancouver
Kingsway is a pretty unusual road in Vancouver, from its name (there's no Street or Road or anything like that after it) to its orientation (it actually came first, so the argument could be made that every other street is wrong).
4. 5 things you didn't know about Vancouver's Airport
Vancouver's airport is a pretty big deal, located on the western edge of North America and providing a crucial hub connecting Canada with Asia.
It wasn't always like that. For instance, did you know that before the airport had lights to guide planes in, locals would head down in their cars to help pilots find the runway?
5. 5 facts you didn't know about Vancouver's Waterfront Station
Waterfront Station is arguably the most important public transit hub in Vancouver. And it's a very strong argument.
It's been a transportation hub for a long time, predating TransLink or the SeaBus by decades. It was a passenger train station until the 70s and was from where the last interprovincial train left in 1979. Perhaps fittingly, it left late.
Bonus: 5 facts you didn't know about chain restaurants in Vancouver
This just missed making the cut for the top five, so consider it a bonus. It's very important people learn facts like where the first Denny's in Canada was, or the first Starbucks.
