William H. Malkin
William H. Malkin arrived in Vancouver in the midst of a recession on January 1, 1895. “When I came here,” he said in a 1937 speech, “half the stores were vacant, there was only a population of 17,000, and the future of the city was far from being assured.” In 1929–30, W.H. was mayor of a much larger city, whose future he did much to assure.
