Is Vancouver social media obsessed? Find out where it ranks in new study

A new study from casino market research company CasinoBonusCA.com endeavours to find the most social media-obsessed city in Canada.

The ranking was made by analyzing the number of monthly Google searches for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, etc.) across Canada over the past year. The cities were then listed in order, highest to lowest, based on the number of searches per 1,000 people.

The good news is, Vancouver didn't make the top three. The bad news is we did make the top 10, ahead of Toronto.

Vancouver ranked as the sixth most social media-obsessed city in Canada and according to our Google searches, we are most interested in YouTube which was also the most popular social media platform across the country.

The most social media-obsessed city is in B.C.--according to the study, is Victoria as number one in Canada with 5,758 searches per 1,000 people monthly. The capital appears to favour YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, in that order.

Moncton, New Brunswick and St John’s, Newfoundland, round out second and third place. Both favour Facebook above other platforms but Moncton is one of the few cities in the top five to also feature Pinterest as a popular search.

Other cities that made the list

Another B.C. city made it into the top five--Nanaimo ranked fourth on the list with Facebook remaining the most widely-used social media platform. The same goes for number five, Peterborough in Ontario.

Interestingly, Snapchat didn't appear as a popular platform for any of the cities (though it's unlikely people who use it would be searching for it on Google). Toronto ranked 14th on the list (out of 47), so is decidedly not social media obsessed. However, the title of least social media obsessed city in Canada goes to Drummondville in Quebec.

Though White Rock, B.C. did give it a run for its money in 46th place.
