As we all know, reading books and buying books are two completely different hobbies.
Reading books is free thanks to our amazing libraries but for those craving the dopamine hit of adding a new book to their already towering TBR (to-be-read), there are independent secondhand bookstores ready to give you a cheap thrill.
Used bookstores are a dying breed and need our support, we have put together another list of five must-visit used bookstores in Vancouver that you can check out here.
But Rummage Community Thrift is one of the best places to shop for cheap books in Vancouver. Right now, the Kitsilano thrift store is having a massive $1 book sale right now with no decided end date. Located at 2560 Arbutus St., the shop also stocks weird and wonderful vintage finds from clothing to furniture and hosts clothing swaps.

Thrift stores are a great place for bargain hunters in the market for books without a specific title in mind to peruse at their leisure. Wildlife Thrift store on Granville St. has a surprisingly stocked selection of cheap books under $5 as do most Value Villages, Salvation Armys and SPCA Thrift stores.
If you're not committed to spending the time scanning the shelves, two online options for super cheap books in Vancouver include Book Outlet and Thriftbooks, but until the sale at Rummage is over it's pretty impossible to beat $1.
