People with pre-existing health conditions are still being cautioned to reduce their time spent outdoors Wednesday.
That's because smoke from Washington State wildfires continues to blanket southern skies of British Columbia.
An Environment Canada air quality advisory remains in effect, as well as one issued by Metro Vancouver on Tuesday afternoon.
“Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health,” Environment Canada said in its Sept. 9 bulletin.
“People with pre-existing health conditions, respiratory infections such as COVID-19, older adults, pregnant women and infants, children, and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure.”
The agency also warned that “smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances" and "vary considerably hour-by-hour.”Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, Kootenays, and coastal areas around Metro Vancouver are expected to see and experience the most smoke.
