The Vancouver Police Department is releasing more information about a collision earlier this week that's left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
A 23-year-old victim remains in hospital with life-threatening and serious injuries after being hit by a van during the morning rush hour in the city's downtown.
She was walking east through the intersection of Cambie Street and Pacific Boulevard around 8 a.m.on Tuesday, March 8. As she crossed the road a blue 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon struck her and kept moving. The van came to a stop further down Cambie Street with a tree stuck underneath.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
“The driver of the Volkswagen remained on scene,” says Const. Tania Visintin in a press release. “It is suspected impairment by alcohol was the cause of this frightening collision.”
Police are now looking for anyone who may have footage via a dashcam of the area or might have seen anything around the time of the collision, between 7:30 a.m and 8:30 a.m. Witnesses or anyone with information can call the collision investigation unit at 1-604-717-3012.
