Two people face charges in conjunction with the alleged theft of $25,000 in merchandise from a Vancouver retail store.

Two people have been arrested after more than $25,000 in merchandise was allegedly stolen from a high-end clothing retail store in Kitsilano.

The alleged violent robbery occurred Monday, Jan. 29 around 6:30 p.m. at the Arc'teryx store near the intersection of West 4th Avenue and Arbutus Street in Kitsilano, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

At that time two people allegedly entered the store and used bear spray to steal clothing and merchandise. While no one was seriously injured at the time, one security guard had to be decontaminated for bear spray, Const. Tania Visintin tells Vancouver Is Awesome.

"The suspects fled in a taxi as VPD officers were responding," states the VPD in a press release. "Information from witnesses helped police quickly locate the cab."

When police got to the cab at Burrard Street and East 2nd Avenue they arrested one person. Another was arrested later at East Hastings and Gore streets.

Two people have been charged in the dramatic incident. Anthony Britch, 35, faces charges of theft, assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Alana DaSilva, 30, is charged with theft, according to the VPD.

Britch, who remains in police custody, has been found guilty of breaking and entering, assault, and theft under $5,000 in the past. DaSilva has been released with court-ordered conditions.
