In unison with the National Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism rallies are being organized Monday (May 10) at a series of Vancouver SkyTrain stations.
The Stand With Asians Coalition, based in Burnaby, has planned rallies for 13 locations across Metro Vancouver. In the City of Vancouver they're planned for 3 p.m. at King Edward Station, Joyce Station, Burrard Station, and Commercial Broadway Station. All are being organized to be socially distanced.
Other rallies in the region are similarly planned for SkyTrain stations or community areas.
The physical rallies will be followed by a national online rally from 5 to 6 p.m.
The Stand With Asians Coalition was founded by Doris Mah in light of the increasing amount of Asian hate in the region.
Never underestimate the influence of 1 person. I started #SWACoalition 3 wks ago at my kitchen table after reading police reported 350% ⬆️ in anti-Asian hate crimes in my court. Now we have 30 cities (over 8M Canadians) from #vancouver to #toronto join our movement #StopAsianHate pic.twitter.com/rsscObelYR

Vancouver was named "Anti-Asian Hate Crime Capital of North America" last week by Bloomberg as reports of racism towards British Columbians of Asian descent skyrocketed since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism is being supported by a variety of organizations and levels of government who have declared or proclaimed support the day.
At the same time May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada.
