Vancouver, B.C. gas prices broke records due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as relaxed coronavirus restrictions that increased travel in 2022.

Have you been feeling pain at the pumps?

Metro Vancouver saw unprecedented prices at gas stations across the region this spring, as a tight global supply was worsened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Prices have also skyrocketed as countries around the world relaxed their coronavirus restrictions and were flooded with international travellers after a two-year hiatus.

Regional gas prices surpassed the $2-per-litre mark for the first time on March 4 and continued to climb. On May 6, several outlets sold gas for 216.9 cents per litre, which broke the previous record of 214.9.

And then on June 5, Vancouver hit an eye-watering $2.37 per litre, surpassing the previous record of $2.336 a litre.
