Hung-Chieh Chou of Surrey, B.C. won $1 million in the Nov. 13, 2024 Lotto 6/49 draw

Metro Vancouver resident Hung-Chieh Chou is now planning for an early retirement thanks to a $1 million win playing Lotto 6/49.

Chou, who lives in Surrey, won the million-dollar prize in the November 13, 2024 draw, according to the BCLC.

B.C.'s newest millionaire learned of his win while checking the BCLC app in his car.

When he scanned the ticket, he couldn't believe what he saw.

“I thought that it was a lot of zeroes!” he says in a media release.

Chou's wife also wanted to make sure the $1 million was real.

“She said, ‘Are you sure?’ She was excited to know it was a real win.”

The Chous have much to celebrate, and are looking to pay off their mortgage with the winnings.

Chou also says he is planning to retire early. But first, a big dinner, says the lucky local.

“It’s incredible. I feel blessed.”
