Police were called to Killarney Secondary in South Vancouver after a bear spray incident.

Police say a bear spray incident at a Vancouver high school was targeted.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) was called Wednesday, June 15 by staff at Killarney Secondary at East 49 Avenue and Killarney Street after there were reports of a noxious gas in the school.

"Investigators believe two teenaged suspects, who do not attend Killarney, entered the school just after 9 a.m. and attempted to assault a male student," the VPD says in a press release. "The suspects deployed bear spray then fled in a vehicle."

The school had to evacuate 2,000 students and those who were sprayed had to be decontaminated by firefighters and paramedics.

"A number of students were taken to hospital as a precaution," note police.

Police are investigating the incident and have identified suspects.
