Delta’s Brian White has been in the real estate game for more than 30 years, but after winning $141,531 from the Lotto Max draw on May 29, 2020, he’s setting his sights on a post-retirement venture.

“I recently bought a 90-acre property up in the Robson Valley to start an organic hops farm,” said White, who calls the property a great place to start retirement. “I want to start up my own microbrewery, and I might put some of these winnings towards a new tractor.”

Traditionally, White buys his lottery tickets at retail locations. Recently, he’s been purchasing his tickets on the BCLC Lotto! app using his PlayNow.com account.

“Usually I’ll stop in for gas, maybe buy a chocolate milk and grab my ticket,” White added. “But then my wife told me that they have an app where you could purchase tickets.”

White was at home getting set to buy his ticket for an upcoming draw when he noticed something different with his PlayNow.com account.

“I saw the balance at the top of the app and it was just a lot of numbers,” he recalled. “I showed it to my wife and was asking what the? … After some time, she said ‘that’s what’s in the account’, and it said I was a winner!”

White claimed his prize using BCLC’s temporary alternate prize-claim process.
