The Vancouver Public Library is once again opening up its search for a writer-in-residence.
Every year the library has a four-month full-time residency for an established local writer. Throughout the term the writer spends half their time working on new material and the other half working as a sort of ambassador for literature. They'll hold workshops, mentor emerging writers and participate in related activities through the library.
"The writer plays a creative and valuable role at the Library, using their experience to foster a greater public appreciation for Canadian writing," states the library on its website. "They provide the community with opportunities to interact with and learn from a published writer, especially communities not typically exposed to Canadian writing."
Applicants should be published Canadian writers who have experience teaching in some way and be enthusiastic about the public interaction portion of the residency. Past writers have included Ivan E. Coyote, Lindsay Wong and Sam Wiebe.
The program runs from Aug. 29 to Dec. 16, 2022. Applications close March 31.
