A group of construction workers is being credited with chasing down and holding a carjacking suspect and stopping a crime spree downtown.
At around 8:40 a.m. Friday Vancouver police received a call from a man reporting that he had just been pepper-sprayed in the parking lot at Cambie and Pender by a man who then took off in his car. According to police, the suspect then drove erratically stopping a few blocks away at West Georgia and Hamilton, where he was involved in a number of collisions and hit a pedestrian.
“The suspect jumped out of the vehicle, and when a group of construction workers gave chase, they were also pepper-sprayed,” media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said in a press release.
The workers were able to hold the man until police arrived. The 27-year-old suspect is in police custody.
The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
