Here's what $500 can get you as a Vancouver rental. (Hint: Not much)

For those in search of somewhere to hang their hat...and nothing else

Finding a place to rent in Vancouver for $500 a month is difficult.

Rental listing websites like Craigslist and Kijiji only have a handful of options coming in at under $1,000, and many have questionable appeal. For example, a recent "private room" for rent in Vancouver on Facebook Marketplace is cheap, it's also a very bare-bones option.

In photos of the space, prospective tenants can see that a mattress and box spring sit on the floor of an area that appears to be part of an unfinished basement off a laundry room. While it's described as "private" there are no doors visible in the photos.

Aside from the bed, there doesn't appear to be much else, or space for much else. There's a fan on the floor and the room has a small window.

There's also a fire extinguisher attached to a bare post.

Just through the apparent entrance to the sleeping space sits a washing machine and an office chair - but there's no door between the washing machine and bed.

The written description of the living arrangement is brief, noting it's a shared basement and a great location near a bus stop.
