A huge new building is being proposed in near the city's core.
Technically in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood, the 8-storey structure will be located at 1628 Station St., according to the city's website, though it'll face Scotia Street. Currently, it's an empty lot used for parking.
Renderings show a futuristic-looking building with plenty of glass, vertical copper stripes and a rooftop park.
The proposal is for a mixed-use building with retail space on the ground floor. The upper levels are essentially evenly split between office space and laboratories.
The property is owned by Chip Wilson's Low Tide Properties. Online they call the project Lab 29.
"Named after the 29th element, copper, Lab 29 pays homage to the metal manufacturing facilities that stood here in the past and the scientific research and development that will take place here in the future," states the company's website.
The Lululemon founder's company has focused on buying property in the area over the last few years.
While the area is part of Strathcona, Low Tide is trying to rebrand it as the South Flatz neighbourhood. They own several buildings in the area, including the Ferguson, which neighbours the proposed Lab 29.
"A neighbourhood in progress, South Flatz will transform into an outdoor museum showcasing large-scale public art next to an array of creative campuses, big tech companies, high-end fashion, and hip restaurants," states Low Tide on its site.
