Vancouver police arrested a man later identified as a convicted killer after he threatened gas station staff over a points card on Jan. 18. 2025.

A man convicted of murder more than 40 years ago is in police custody again after threatening to shoot a Vancouver gas station clerk.

The incident occurred Saturday, Jan. 18 around 4 p.m. at a gas station located at the intersection of East Broadway and Clark Drive.

It started when there was an issue with the man's points card, and escalated from there.

"The suspect allegedly said he’d return to the station...to shoot the employee," reads a Tweet from the VPD.

A member of the gas station staff then called 911.

When police became involved it was revealed the man was out on parole following a 1981 murder conviction for fatally shooting a police officer.

"His parole has now been revoked, he’s in jail, and a new charge for uttering threats has been recommended," state the police on Twitter.

Details, including the parolee's name, have not been released by police.

"He is currently in custody and has not yet been charged with this weekend’s offence, so we can’t name him yet," states Sgt. Steve Addison in an email to V.I.A.
