A Coquitlam man has been charged with attempted murder in a highway shooting that left one man in hospital in serious condition.
Adam Yousef Aboubaker, 22, was arrested Monday, March 15, after Surrey RCMP units responded to multiple calls reporting two men fighting and shots fired in the 13500-block of Highway 99 in South Surrey.
When police arrived they arrested Aboubaker and found another man bleeding from gunshot wounds. Both were in the same vehicle and Surrey RCMP say it appears the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two men, according to an earlier press release.
“There is no indication at this time that (this) shooting is related to the Lower Mainland Gang conflict, however police are investigating possible links to the drug trade,” wrote Surrey RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Elenore Sturko in a press release.
Aboubaker has been charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, as well as discharging a firearm while being reckless to the life or safety of another person, according to Sgt. Sturko.
Surrey RCMP are asking anyone with more information about this incident or dash-cam footage to contact the detachment at 604-599-0502. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
