About half of the overall cost was recoverable from the venue and the tour itself

The Vancouver Police Department said it spent nearly $950,000 to police Taylor Swift's three Eras Tour concerts at BC Place in December 2024.

The numbers are in on how much Taylor Swift's Eras Tour cost the Vancouver Police Department.

The three concerts on Dec. 6, 7, and 8, 2024 brought 180,000 fans into BC Place, plus Swifties who just wanted to be in Vancouver for the end of the record-setting tour. To meet the increased activity in the city, the VPD deployed 700 additional offers.

At the Jan. 23 police board meeting, VPD Chief Adam Palmer shared that it cost the department $943,000 to handle the event.

"That breaks down to roughly half costs recoverable and roughly half not," Palmer explained.

BC Place and concert organizers covered $473,000 while the VPD absorbed $470,000 of The Eras Tour bill. Palmer noted that the non-recoverable cost per show was about $156,000.

He explained that venues cover the costs of police at the stadium or adjacent to it, while the police department (and therefore city) covers the costs of policing the area around the event.

"To give you some context, the Toronto Police Service released their numbers publicly. They had more shows than us; they had six shows but each of their shows were smaller," he added. "And their budget was $1.9 million."

Destination Vancouver estimates Swift's tour's economic impact on Vancouver was roughly $157 million.
