A Downtown Eastside pub is the latest site of possible COVID-19 exposure.
In its front window, a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Communicable Disease Control notice issued Sept. 5 informs anyone at The West on Aug. 20 or 30 they may have come in contact with the virus.
“The exposure does not mean that you or others are sick with COVID-19,” the flyer states, urging patrons of the pub to “monitor [their] health for new symptoms.”
Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever or chills, a cough, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, and nausea or vomiting could alert those who were at the bar to get tested for COVID-19.
VCH confirmed Wednesday with Vancouver Is Awesome that exposure did occur at the 488 Carrall St. hotel bar during those dates.
However, confusion has arisen as to why the establishment is not currently listed on the VCH public exposure website.
A VCH spokesperson released the health authority’s statement on the matter:
“We have not issued a public exposure notification for the West Pub,” the health authority said, clarifying that it only puts a facility on the list if it isn't able “to notify those exposed by other, direct means.”
“That is not the case here," it emphasized.
