There's movement at the site of the English Bay Barge this morning. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wed. Dec. 8 a tug boat and crane barge appeared off the seawall in the West End, approximately 100 metres from the wreck. Video can be seen on a livestream on YouTube.
There is no word yet from the City of Vancouver about if today is the big day, but a high tide of 5.07 metres is to take place at 9:46 a.m.
The day prior a spokesperson from the city told Vancouver Is Awesome that "Transport Canada has received and is reviewing the plan," to remove the wayward chip barge which washed ashore on Nov. 15.
The email statement continues "Once the plan has been finalized, the owner of the vessel will take appropriate actions to ensure that the barge is removed safely from its current location. Timing of the removal is to be confirmed."
The Coast Guard is hands-off at this point in regards to the barge.
"The Canadian Coast Guard is not involved with the barge at this time. The federal responsibility for this barge has now shifted over to Transport Canada, which is working with the barge owner and its insurer on a plan," says a spokesperson in an email to Vancouver is Awesome.
