The Vancouver Police Department is warning the public about a man designated a dangerous offender who was recently released to a halfway house in the city.
Tyler Strathdee may be at risk of committing "further physical and sexual violence" states the VPD in a press release. Strathdee, who's from Alberta, has chosen to move to Vancouver.
Police confirm he has relocated.
"The 36-year-old is serving an 11-year, two-month jail sentence for multiple violent offences committed in Alberta, including robbery, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and manslaughter," states the VPD.
The Alberta court heard Strathdee had psychiatric issues; his 2019 conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada in 2021.
According to a decision posted by the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench, a forensic psychologist testified Strathdee had a "marked presence of psychopathic personality traits." Dr. Tara Hook also testified that Strathdee's psychopathy meant "he would have a very low rate of success on conditional release."
His sentence ends in 2028, but he's received a statutory release which allows him to serve the rest of the sentence in the community with conditions, including:
- He's not to consume alcohol or drugs
- He's not to associate or communicate with anyone involved in criminal activity or substance misuse
- He's not to be in the presence of sex trade workers
- He must report all sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females to a parole supervisor
Anyone who sees Strathdee breaching one of these conditions is asked to call police immediately.
