Thinking about attending any mass gatherings at Vancouver's Third Beach in the near future?
If so, you're going to have to do so under the watchful gaze of none other than Dr. Bonnie Henry.
A larger-than-life portrait of B.C.'s provincial health officer popped up on the Stanley Park beach Saturday morning, supported by a white post planted firmly into the sand. The seemingly disapproving facial expression attributed to the province's most beloved public health official can only be described as, "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." (Credit to Reddit user /NotStainer for coming up with that one.)
The painting is the work of anonymous Vancouver street artist iHeart, who posted photos of the creation to Instagram on Saturday alongside the caption, "There’s a new lifeguard on duty at Third Beach."
This reminder to continue being careful amidst the COVID-19 pandemic comes just four days after a crowd far larger than Henry's 50-person limit on gatherings attended a drum circle at the same location, prompting widespread outrage - not to mention more than a few jokes at their expense - from fellow British Columbians and elected officials alike.
The beach art was an immediate hit on social media, racking up nearly 1,000 likes by Saturday afternoon in addition to comments calling the depiction "genius."
