Do you care if you see the sticker?

Do "baby on board" bumper stickers change how people drive?

One of the most common categories of bumper stickers on vehicles in Vancouver is "baby on board" stickers.

While the style may vary, they all share the same message. A baby is in this car.

Aside from letting people know there may be an infant, toddler, or young child inside the car, do these stickers mean much?

A common idea is that they're for emergency responders, but there doesn't appear to be any evidence to support this anywhere. In fact, it's been reported that it can cause problems for first responders searching for children when they're not in the vehicle.

More commonly, it's considered a warning to other drivers and a way to encourage safe driving practices. But does it work?

While there doesn't appear to be any scientific studies on the sticker, we polled V.I.A. readers and found only around 13 per cent reported driving more cautiously when they see a sticker.

That leaves more than 87 per cent of drivers in Vancouver who don't alter their behaviour when the sticker is seen.

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1651 readers and asked the question: Does seeing a 'baby on board' sticker change the way you drive?

The poll ran from 12/15/2024 to 12/30/2024. Of the 1651 votes, we can determine that 579 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
