A dog had a near-death experience on public transit today (Jan. 12).
At first, Vancouver police told V.I.A. that a dog had tragically died at Broadway-City Hall Station after it got caught in between the train doors. "There are a lot of traumatized passengers and so [the] VPD is assisting Transit," Const. Tania Visintin initially said.
Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) clarified that the dog is, in fact, alive and unharmed.
Const. Amanda Steed told V.I.A. just before noon a golden retriever ran into Oakridge-41st Station, found itself on the tracks, and "just couldn't get out."
"He was stuck in the tunnel," she says. "The dog ran from Oakridge towards Broadway-City Hall."
Canada Line train attendants took one of the trains out and manually drove it to locate the pup, added Steed.
"They said that they have corralled the dog and they have located him and they're going to return it back to his owner," she said.
MVTP shared an update on what happened the next day (Jan. 13), saying that the dog's leash "got caught in a Canada Line train's doors after her owner made it on board, but she didn't. Thrown into the guideway, [the dog] was unhurt, but scared, and ran into the tunnel."
