Driver fleeing Vancouver police ends in fiery crash in Burnaby

No arrests have been made in an incident that started in Vancouver and ended in Burnaby early Sunday morning.

Police are still looking for a driver who took off from a traffic stop in Vancouver and ended up in a fiery crash in Burnaby early Sunday morning.

Vancouver police spotted a red Mercedes speeding along Southeast Marine Drive near Fraser Street at around 3:30 a.m., according to spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin.

The same vehicle was seen a short time later running a red light near Matheson Crescent and Marine Drive, she said.

Officers tried to pull the car over, but it took off into Burnaby and crashed into a tree near Joffre Avenue and Marine Drive.

"The vehicle caught on fire and the driver and passenger fled the area," Visintin said.

No arrests have been made so far.
